Heavy snow makes driving conditions difficult in Serbia

BELGRADE - The snow that fell during the night and low temperatures causing icy roads made driving in Serbia difficult on Monday, the Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Serbia (AMSS) said in a release Monday morning.

A lot of snow is expected during the day and evening, so motorists are being warned to drive with caution.

According to the border police directorate, current wait times at border crossings are up to 30 minutes.
All maintenance services at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport's have been working around the clock since the snowfall moved in and will continue doing so during the forthcoming New Year's and Christmas holidays if needs arise, the release says.

The Airport's winter maintenance service has the most advanced snow clearing equipment in this part of Europe, and the airport has been open for landings and takeoffs regardless of winter conditions for the past eight winter seasons.

In most of Serbia, the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia says, the cold front will be there until Friday, bringing the lowest temperatures to between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius below zero and highest to between minus four and minus 10.

The cold weather alert for Serbia valid until January 2nd says strong northwest winds could cause massive piles of snow locally.
