Vucic to Chepurin: Minsk deal good news for all

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic met with Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin on Friday, and extended congratulations to Russia's officials and people on the successful outcome of the talks held in Minsk.

We followed the negotiations with great interest, and we sincerely welcome the agreement reached in Minsk. It is good and big news for us all, the Serbian prime minister underscored.

During the meeting, the officials noted the important role of the OSCE, and Serbia, given that it is currently chairing the international organization.

The deal ending months of fighting in eastern Ukraine was reached in Minsk on Thursday after the marathon negotiations between the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France, according to which the ceasefire should come into force on February 15.

Pointing to the importance of improving economic cooperation between the two countries, the Russian ambassador informed the Serbian prime minister about important business forums that will be held in Russia this year, and stressed that the Russian side is very interested in welcoming Serbian officials and businessmen to the events.

In relation to that, Vucic voiced confidence that Serbia will present its offer to the Russian and global market in the best way.

The meeting also addressed the strengthening of the cooperation between Serbia and Russia in the field of agriculture, car and chemical industries, the government's press office stated in a release.

Ambassador Chepurin gave Vucic a message of congratulations from Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev for Serbia's Statehood Day celebrated on February 15.
