Serbia is rebuilding cooperation and projects with Iraq
BAGHDAD - Serbia's Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic met in Baghdad on Wednesday with Iraqi Defence Minister Khaled al-Obeidi to discuss cooperation between the two countries and their defence ministries.
The talks included potential cooperation in military education and economy, signing an information exchange agreement between the two nation's intelligence agencies and infrastructure projects, Gasic told Tanjug.
"We also discussed rebuilding the Iraqi defence industry, which used to be very powerful, and I am certain that Serbia can help significantly in that sense," he stated.
Serbia and Iraq have been friends for over 60 years and have also conducted many joint projects, he noted.
"It seems to me that we also share some history, because both countries suffered great devastation during the 1990s and all the dialogue was meant to rebuild the old friendship and joint projects and start modernising both countries," Gasic pointed out.
Al-Obeidi spoke to reporters in Serbian and said that the relations between the two nation's were friendly, and added that he had learned the language during his studies in Belgrade and Sarajevo.
Gasic met also with President Muhammad Fuad Masum and Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq, and he also visited the Iraqi National Museum.
