A film about the life of German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to be screened in 2017, the managing director of AVE, the company behind the production, has said.

"Ms Merkel has a thrilling biography," according to Walid Nakschbandi, who runs AVE. However, he added he does not yet know who will star as the German leader.

The script will come from Dirk Kurbjuweit, an author from Der Spiegel weekly who "knows the Chancellor very well," in Nakschbandi's words for the DPA news agency,

Kurbjuweit has published two books on Merkel, titled "Angela Merkel" (2009) and "Alternativlos" (2014), the latter referring to a word frequently used by her to motivate key policy decisions ("alternativeless").

"I have been following Merkel's political way for many years, critically, but spellbound," the author is quoted as saying.

He has also called her "the most exciting politician of our time", cited by ARD.

As for AVE, the company has been recently busy with a documentary on Anne Frank and a feature film dedicated on the writer and Holocaust victim currently being shot in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
