Vladimir Kostic elected new SANU chairman
BELGRADE - Academician Vladimir Kostic was elected chairman of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) on Tuesday.
Kostic won majority support in a secret voting held at a session of the SANU Assembly.
Vladimir Kostic, professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade, is a member of the World Federation of Neurology, the American Academy of Neurology, the Royal Society of Medicine, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society and the International Neuropsychiatric Association.
Zoran Popovic, physicist at the Institute for Physics and director of the Center for Solid State Physics and New Materials, was named SANU deputy chairman for natural sciences. He is also a member of the American Physical Society and the Society of Physicists of Serbia.
Ljubomir Maksimovic, historian of the University of Belgrade, was appointed SANU deputy chairman for social sciences. He is a member of the Association Internationale des Etudes Byzantines, the British Society for the Promotion of Byzantine Studies and a holder of an honorary doctoral degree at the University in Athens.
Stevan Pilipovic, professor at the University of Novi Sad, was named chairman of the SANU subsidiary in Novi Sad. He is a member of the Mathematical Society of Serbia, the American Mathematical Society and the London Mathematical Society.
