Caretta caretta nesting ground revealed on Turkey's Aegean beach
A caretta caretta nesting ground has been discovered in the Milas district of the Aegean province of Mu?la, leading authorities to taken it under protection with hedges.
Officials from the Pamukkale University Sea Turtles Research, Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (DEKAMER) and the Protecting the Ecosystem and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOST) visited the ground after informing the Forestry and Water Affairs Ministry along with protection associations in the region.
Animal lovers said tourism enterprises and buildings in the area posed a serious threat to the eggs, adding that they would launch a rescue and protection operation so that the baby caretta carettas could reach the sea in health when they are born in about 50 days.
As such, the sand has been compacted and the nesting ground has been hedged.
