Turkish PM suggests lifting all immunities
The immunities of all parliamentarians subject to criminal summaries of proceedings should be lifted regardless of their party, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu has said.
"Let's lift immunities altogether. There are 506 summaries of proceedings waiting as a file at the parliament. Let's lift them all. The Justice and Development Party (AKP) has no file to [fear]," Davuto?lu said.
Davuto?lu also added that necessary steps on the issue would be taken next week if the proposal was accepted.
Davuto?lu's remarks came amid calls by the president, the AKP and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) for the removal of immunities for five Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputies, including co-chairs Selahattin Demirta? and Figen Yüksekda?, following the submission of their summaries of proceedings to parliament.
The HDP has long said it would vote to remove the immunities of all parliamentarians.
