Athens Science Festival kicks off at Gazi’s Technopolis Centre

The Athens Science Festival (ASF) opens its door to public on Tuesday at the City of Athens Technopolis Centre in Gazi, for the third consecutive year, running from 5 to 10 April with a focus on “Evolving with Science”.

Among the topics to be explored are life and matter, the making of ‘smart’ machines, the human brain, fighting disease, new materials with ‘magical’ properties, climate change and many others.

Svante Pääbo, Director of Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany will give the opening talk on Tuesday evening on the topic “Your Internal Neanderthal”, followed by the MIT’s Michalis Bletsas who will speak about “Internet Connectivity.”

During the Athens Science Festival, our younger as well as adult audiences will have the opportunity to attend exhibitions, screenings and thought-provoking lectures and debates by renowned Greek and foreign scientists and to take part in workshops, various educational activities and educational games.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet ‘Troopy’ – a humanoid robot built by high school student Dimitris Hatzis from Kavala in northern Greece – and learn more about 3D printing and its uses.

The Athens Science Festival is organized by the educational organization “Science Communication – SciCo”, the British Council, the Onassis Scholars’ Association, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub “INNOVATHENS”, the Industrial Gas Museum of Technopolis City of Athens and the General Secretariat for Research & Technology, in collaboration with various academic, research and educational institutes.
