Turkey developing new system to neutralize Katyusha rockets fired by ISIL: Minister

Turkey has created a system that will neutralize Katyusha missiles fired over the border by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and field tests will start soon, Defense Minister Fikri Işık has said. 
"ISIL generally uses Katyusha rockets, which are short-ranged and insensitive. It has not been easy for us to intervene in them for this reason … We have conducted detailed research and works on how to neutralize these rockets over the past year-and-a-half. Two days ago I was told that we have managed to develop a new system that will neutralize Katyusha rockets in the laboratory environment ... We will start the field tests soon," said Işık in an interview on private broadcaster CNN Türk on Oct. 2. 

He noted that the field tests are expected to start this week. 

Since early January, at least 22 people, 12 of whom were Syrians, have been killed in ISIL rocket attacks targeting the border province of Kilis.
