Athens International Airport top in Europe in transit traffic

According to Eurostat data, “Elefterios Venizelos” International Airport in Athens has recorded the highest passenger transit increase in Europe for 2015. The figures show that 19.1% more travellers passed through “Eleftherios Venizelos” last year, compared to 2014, with Luton and Dublin terminals coming in second and third with a +17% and +14.1% rise, respectively. The data shows that a total of over 42 million travellers used “Eleftherios Venizelos” in 2015, a 7.6% rise and higher than the EU 7.3% average. The Greek airport is 23rd in the rankings of the top European airports with the most passenger traffic for 2015, catering an aggregate of 10.09 million people in 2015. Britain, followed by Germany, Spain and France were the top airports regarding passenger traffic for 2015.
