Serbia joins EU's battlegroup

BELGRADE - A note on Serbia's accession to a technical agreement on establishing the EU's HELBROC Battlegroup was signed in Brussels on Tuesday.

The note was signed by the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, General Ljubisa Dikovic, and his Greek counterpart, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, the Serbian Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

The Ministry expressed a readiness to participate with a military police platoon, a civilian and military cooperation team and up to five staff officers in the battlegroup command.

The note will take effect once it has been signed by representatives of the states participating in the Greece-led battlegroup, which also includes Bulgarian, Cypriot, Romanian and Ukrainian troops.

The accession to the battlegroup once again confirms Serbia's commitment to the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy, noted Dikovic.
