Bobbin lace flowers to bloom in Idrija this weekend

Flowers will be in the centre of this year's festival, as florists from ten countries will showcase their flower-and-lace decorations on the streets of Idrija over the weekend.

Tonight's opening ceremony, inspired by the theme of Pygmalion, will see the head of the Idrija Museum, Ivana Leskovec, accept a present from the President Borut Pahor's office on the 25th anniversary of Slovenia's independence, a bobbin lace Slovenian flag made by lace makers from 25 towns around Slovenia.

Several exhibitions, showcasing the talent and creativity of members of the local lace making association, especially the youth, will welcome visitors during the festival.

A bobbin lace installation by Eva Petrič will be on display at the Holy Trinity Church, while two exhibitions will showcase the works of lace makers from Croatia's Split and Lepoglava.
