Powerful winds disrupt ferry services

Waves pound Faliro Bay in southern Athens on Friday. Powerful southerly winds of up to 8 and 9 Beaufort disrupted shipping schedules. The Aegean-bound Dionysis Solomos passenger ferry remained docked in Piraeus port yesterday, as were hydrofoils serving the Saronic Gulf. The high winds also forced the shutdown of the harbors of Rio and Antirio near Patra in western Greece, while the ferry service linking Aghia Marina to Nea Styra on the island of Evia was canceled. Ferries connecting Prinos in Kavala, northern Greece, with Thasos also remain docked. [Orestis Panayiotou/ANA-MPA]
