Findings from the Struma Highway Enter the Exhibition "Bulgarian Archeology 2018"
Archaeological finds revealed during the construction of the Struma highway near the village of Pokrovnik are part of the exhibits at the national exhibition "Bulgarian archeology 2018", the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) announced.
The traditional exposition with the most interesting and impressive studies was opened on February 14 at the National Archaeological Institute with a museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
More than 2,700 discoveries were found in the study of a settlement from the Roman and late antiquity near the village of Pokrovnik. Among them are over 1400 coins, ceramic vessels and metal objects. Some of them will be presented at the exhibition, which runs until 14 April.
From 2016 until now for archaeological research only in the section between Blagoevgrad and Krupnik from Struma highway, the RIA has provided over BGN 3 mln.
This year will be relocating and field conservation of archeological values with exposure value found around the village of Pokrovnik. The Roman Roman Tomb and the Early Christian Church will be relocated, and the parts of the Roman villa and bathroom outside the Struma highway will be preserved on site.
On 8 February the prepared project was sent to the National Institute for Real Estate Heritage, as required by the Cultural Heritage Act.
Last year, archaeological research started on the Hemus highway along the road between Belokopitovo and Buhovtsi, on the first-class roads Kalotina - Sofia and Vidin - Dimovo - Rujintsi - Montana. Their total value is about BGN 935 thousand.
In the following months archaeological research will be carried out on the bypass of Gabrovo, on the road Vidin - Dimovo - Rujintsi - Montana, Mezdra - Botevgrad and on the bypass of Pomorie. The...
