Eight Stations of the Third Metro Line in Sofia Will be Launched by the End of August

Part of the third metro line will start working by the end of the month. Eight of the stations are now ready and testing of the trains between them have started.

The metro stations from the Ovcha Kupel district to Vladimir Vazov Blvd. are now completely ready and will welcome passengers within days. And next year the whole third line will be ready and put into operation next to the Ring Road at the crossing for "Gorna Banya".

Special barriers are being built, both on the new and on the old metro lines, in order to avoid accidents.

The finished metro stations are located in the Ovcha Kupel district; on Bulgaria Boulevard; near the Aleksandrovska University Hospital; on the Patriarch Evtimiy Blvd., next to Zaimov Park and Sofia Theater and on Vladimir Vazov Boulevard.

"After the completion of the train tests, the admission commission started work yesterday and I expect to launch the first 8 kilometers and 8 metro stations from the third metro line by the end of this month," explained the mayor of the capital, Yordanka Fandakova.

Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of passengers. "Along with the construction, we installed such doors, such barriers, that are part of the system of the trains themselves. So when the train stops, it only opens the part that coincides with its door," Fandakova added.

"Unfortunately, we have had cases with victims, with a tragic end. Apart from that, I hope that this will also prevent cases of suicide attempts," said Valentin Todorov, deputy head of the Exploitation Department at the Metropolitan ".
