Central 5 to discuss Slovenia’s EU presidency Monday

Brdo pri Kranju – Foreign Minister Anže Logar will host a meeting of the Central 5 group of countries at Brdo estate on Monday to set out the priorities of Slovenia’s presidency of the Council of the EU to his counterparts from Austria, Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia.

The Foreign Ministry said the meeting is designed to present the Slovenian presidency priorities for the second half of the year with a focus on boosting resilience and the Western Balkans, and to exchange information on measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The ministers will also exchange views on other topical EU and international issues such as trans-Atlantic relations, the EU’s relations with third countries and its future relationship with the UK.

Joining Logar for the meeting will be Austria’s Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, Czechia’s Tomaš Petriček, Hungary’s Peter Szijjarto and Slovakia’s Ivan Korčok.

Media representatives will be able to follow the meeting in-person provided they provide a negative PCR test result no older than 48 hours, proof that they received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine on the condition they had the second jab more than a week before, or a certificate proving they recovered from Covid-19 in the last six months.

The five countries decided to establish the Central 5 format in the midst of the coronavirus crisis. The first meeting was held in Vienna in June, followed by meetings in Budapest in July and Brdo pri Kranju in September and a virtual one in November 2020.
