Govt approves EUR 1 million incentive for Hisense TV plant
Ljubljana – The government has approved the Chinese-owned group Hisense Europe Electronics EUR 1 million in non-refundable funds for its TV production plant at the existing Gorenje operation in Velenje.
According to a press release from the Government Communication Office, the government included the project to expand TV production capacities in Velenje in the state budget plan of development programmes for the 2021-2024 period, approving up to EUR 997,734 as incentive for the initial investment.
Production of Hisense brand TVs for the European market was launched in Velenje in January. By the end of March, some 750 people had been hired in the plant, which is more than initially planned. The Chinese owner invested EUR 7 million in the production facility.
Hisense had initially planned to build a new factory to build TV sets in Velenje, but later decided to launch production at the existing location of Gorenje, the household appliances maker, at a former HZPA production facility.
The facility can now put out two million TVs a year, which is to be expanded to 3.9 million by the time the final phase of the expansion is completed, presumably in three years. It is expected to involve eight automated production lines.
“The project is vitally contributing to regional development through creation of new and preservation of existing jobs as it will create more than 20 new jobs,” reads the press release from the government.
