Flooded roads in Chania, Crete

Streets flooded in Chania, Crete after storm Elias caused heavy rain on Wednesday. 

The sudden storm broke out shortly after 3 p.m. turning several streets into torrents covering sidewalks, as reported neakriti.gr.

Shops also flooded in the city's old town. 

According to the latest forecast from the National Observatory of Athens meteo.gr, Crete will also be struck by storm Elias on Thursday.

Severe weather is also expected in the eastern and southern mainland, including Attica, while affecting the Cyclades and the islands of the Eastern Aegean.
