Fire Department: Stage 2 Operational Readiness implemented due to fire risk
The fire risk is very high for six districts of Greece tomorrow according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate & Civil Protection.
In particular, a very high fire risk (risk category 4) is predicted for the following areas:
Region of Attica (including the island of Kythera)
Region of Peloponnese (Region of Corinth, Region of Argolida, Region of Arcadia, Region of Laconia)
Region of Crete
Region of North Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria)
Region of South Aegean (Cyclades)
Region of Sterea Ellada (Boeotia, Fokida, Fthiotida, Evia)
Consequently, the 2nd stage of operational readiness of the Fire Brigade is implemented and aerial surveillance patrols will be carried out, as well as patrols by fire, police and military forces.
In addition, the personnel of the Fire Services of the above Regional Units are put on partial alert in order to cope with the increased service requirements that may arise due to the very high fire risk (risk category 4).
At the same time, for the above areas, the Civil Protection Action Plan for dealing with forest fire risks is implemented, according to which, among other things, the implementation of the measure of preventive prohibition of vehicle traffic and stay of excursionists in national parks, forests and “vulnerable” areas is foreseen.
In direct cooperation with the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, all the competent governmental agencies involved, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above-mentioned areas have been informed, so that they are in increased readiness to take measures under their jurisdiction.
The Fire Brigade appeals to the citizens:
To be particularly careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire outbreak.
Monitor the information on forest fire prevention available on the Fire Department’s website and official accounts, Facebook and Twitter.
If they become aware of a fire, immediately notify the Fire Department at the 199 call number.
For more information and instructions on how to protect themselves from the dangers of forest fires, citizens can visit the website of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection at www.civilprotection.gr.
“We ask all citizens to be particularly careful and in case of fire, for their own safety, to follow faithfully the instructions of the competent authorities,” the Fire Department’s announcement concludes.
