Mount Pelion steam train resumes service on July 1
The Mount Pelion steam train, one of the world's narrowest railway lines, will start its daily trips on July 1.
The train, nicknamed "Moutzouris" for the steam and smoke it once produced, comprises four wagons and travels from the village of Ano Lechonia to Milies with a single stop in Ano Gatzea for 15 minutes before continuing its 15-kilometer picturesque journey. The whole trip takes about 90 minutes, navigating a mountainous route through a forest of plane trees and oaks.
The train will depart from Ano Lechonia at 10 a.m. and return from Milies at 3 p.m.
Additionally, beginning July 6, weekend services will be available on routes 4802 (departing Ano Lechonia at 1/30 p.m.) and 4803 (departing Milies at 12.20 p.m.).
The train originally operated between Volos and Milies, with construction of the railway beginning in 1892 and finishing in 1903. The...
