Turkey: New Navtex in the Eastern Mediterranean in an area it calls “Turkish continental shelf”

The Turkey to systematically challenge Greek sovereign rights in the Eastern Mediterranean on the occasion of the work of the Italian research vessel C/S TELIRI by issuing a new NAVTEX in an area it calls “Turkish continental shelf” and which overlaps the Greek continental shelf south of Rhodes and Kastelorizo and southeast of Crete.

The same NAVTEX also overlaps part of the Cypriot continental shelf west of the island.

Turkey issued just before midnight on Friday NAVTEX 0615/24 with which announces the laying of a cable (for telecommunications) from the C/S TELIRI, noting that this is an area of the “Turkish continental shelf”.

This new Turkish NAVTEX follows the first announcement issued by the Antalya station and revealed by Proto Thema on June 25 and shows Turkey’s insistence on raising the issue of disputing the Greek continental shelf and reaffirming the “Blue Homeland” and the Turkish-Libyan Memorandum.
