35 fires across the country in the last 24 hours

Thirty-five fires have occurred across the country in the last 24 hours. Of these, according to the Fire Department, 31 were dealt with immediately, at their initial stage, while firefighters are tackling four more.

Regarding the fire in Stimanga, Corinth, Political Protection sources say that since last night when the fire has no active front, are still battling several scattered outbreaks and rekindled fires occurring in the difficult ravine with dense vegetation. As the same sources stress, although there is no danger, strong ground forces are still operating. By 9.00 pm a total of 20 air assets, namely 8 aircraft and 12 helicopters, including two coordination helicopters, were operating.

At 8:57 a fire broke out in low vegetation in Markopoulo, Messogaia, Attica. The fire was controlled in 20 minutes and 32 firefighters, 1 hiking team and 10 vehicles operated at the scene.

At 11:42 the alarm was raised for the Salmoni area in Rodopi, when a fire broke out between a settlement and a dense forest. Immediately a large mobilization took place and ground and air forces managed to deal with it in time. In 1.5 hours the fire no longer had an active front. 30 firefighters, 1 hiking team, 9 vehicles, 5 aircraft, and 2 helicopters operated at the scene. Assistance was provided by project machinery, water trucks of local authorities and volunteers.

At 11:59 a fire broke out in an agroforestry area in the area of Peristera, in the municipality of Thermi, Thessaloniki. The fire was without an active front in 45 minutes. For its extinguishing 30 firefighters with a team of a hiking section, 8 vehicles, 2 aircraft and 2 helicopters operated.

At 12:14, a fire broke out in low vegetation in the area of Nea Roda, Halkidiki. The fire had no active front in 45 minutes. 28 firefighters, with a team of hiking section, 9 vehicles and 1 helicopter operated at the site.

At 17:36, a fire broke out in low vegetation on Acharneon Ipeon and Liosion streets, in Acharnes. The fire was controlled in 20 minutes. For its extinguishing 13 firefighters, with a team of a hiking section, 6 vehicles, 2 aircraft and 2 helicopters operated.

The local investigative offices, as well as teams of the Directorate of Arson Investigation (DIA) are investigating the causes of the fires.

Finally, the fire brigade calls on all citizens to be particularly careful and, in case of fire, for their own safety, to follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
