A closed gymnasium under construction in Trilofos, in the municipality of Thermi, eastern Thessaloniki, was vandalized by unknown individuals before its construction could be completed. The perpetrators entered the construction site, opened containers of materials that were on-site, and scattered them across the stands and the playing area.

Thirty-five fires have occurred across the country in the last 24 hours. Of these, according to the Fire Department, 31 were dealt with immediately, at their initial stage, while firefighters are tackling four more.

The Fire Department has made an arrest and imposed administrative fines for fires in Chania, Corfu, Ilia, Ioannina, Thessaloniki and Evia.

A Thessaloniki prosecutor has brought criminal charges against two men who were arrested for shooting and killing a dog in the municipality of Thermi, southeast of the northern port city.

The 47-year-old rancher and his 44-year-old friend, who remain in custody, will appear before an investigative magistrate on Saturday.

A 63-year-old motorist died Tuesday when his car was swept up by floodwaters on a country road near Scholari in the municipality of Thermi following heavy rainfall.

A 64-year-old woman who had been in the car with him managed to get out of the vehicle and was transferred to the hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.
