Wildfire erupts in Rethymno, residents of Agios Vassileios on alert

A wildfire broke out in Kanevos, located in the Rethymno region of Crete, on Monday.

The blaze, which is consuming scrubland, is being fought by 35 firefighters using nine fire engines and two helicopters.

The 112 emergency alert system has issued a message instructing residents of Agios Vasileios to be prepared for evacuation if necessary.
