SYRIZA sets leadership elections after Kasselakis’ ouster

Greece's main opposition party, SYRIZA, will hold a party congress from November 1-3 ahead of its leadership elections on November 24, with a potential runoff scheduled for December 1, as announced on Tuesday.

These decisions follow the ousting of leader Stefanos Kasselakis in a no-confidence vote during the party's central committee meeting on Sunday. Kasselakis has yet to announce his next steps, while all his close aides, including the party spokesperson and press team, have resigned.

SYRIZA's secretary confirmed that the central committee will reconvene soon to finalize the details of the congress.

MP Pavlos Polakis, a declared leadership candidate, called for early elections on Tuesday. "The trauma of SYRIZA must heal quickly with the contributions of its members," he said, suggesting the elections should be held by early November.
