Greek flood deaths surge over past decade

Over the past decade, flood-related deaths in Greece have increased significantly, according to data from the National Observatory of Athens (meteo.gr).

The data reveals that since 1980, Greece has experienced 70 deadly floods, resulting in 190 fatalities. However, half of these deaths occurred in the last decade, showing a concerning rise in flood-related fatalities.

A large portion of these deaths, approximately 60%, took place during the autumn months (September, October and November) and the majority of the victims (60%) were over the age of 45.
