22-year-old who survived Hamas massacre at Israeli music festival commits suicide on her birthday

The 22-year-old, who survived the Hamas attack near the Re’im kibbutz in Israel, took her own life in her apartment.

Shirel Golan, who turned 22 today, had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to her family, and had been hospitalized twice.

Her brother, Eyal, stated: “I saw that she had symptoms of PTSD, such as withdrawing and distancing herself from her friends. I asked her to take care of herself. She said she wasn’t receiving any help from the state.”

“If the state had taken care of her, none of this would have happened,” he added.

The Ministry of Welfare and Social Services later responded, stating that Golan “had been receiving treatment from the welfare system even before October 7, and especially after the incident.”
