Two workers arrested for stealing drugs from container at port of Piraeus
Two senior employees of the container terminal in Neo Ikonio have been implicated in a cocaine trafficking ring.
According to the coast guard, the suspects were caught late at night removing drugs from a container of bananas and transporting them out of the port using an official vehicle. The following morning, an additional 24 kilograms of cocaine were discovered in the same container, presumed to be left behind during the nighttime operation.
The two arrested individuals appeared before the Piraeus prosecutor on Tuesday and have been granted a deadline to present their defense on Friday.
As part of the investigation, authorities have seized and inspected 50 containers arriving in Piraeus from Ecuador on the same shipping route.
