Lawmakers vote to halt funds to far-right Spartans

The Parliament has approved an amendment to suspend state funding for the far-right Spartiates (Spartans) party, citing concerns over potential criminal affiliations. The legislation, introduced by the Interior Ministry, mirrors previous measures that halted funding to the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party.

The urgency in passing this amendment before the Christmas recess is linked to a pending disbursement of approximately €450,000 in state funds to political parties, a portion of which was designated for the Spartiates.

The amendment allows Parliament to suspend funding for parties linked to individuals convicted under specific criminal provisions, pending judicial review.
