Baby Guru | Athens | March 30

Local act Baby Guru (whose songs are mostly in English) brings its energetic blend of psych rock and pop to Gagarin 205 on Thursday, March 30, starting at 9 p.m. The three childhood friends already have three albums under the belt, two of which have met with international recognition.

The Swingin' Cats | Athens | March 30 - April 6

"Jukebox Cinema" is a new show created by local swing and rock 'n' roll act the Swingin' Cats, with lively mashups incorporating numbers from classic films accompanied by performers from a local dance school. The band will be performing from Thursday, March 30, through Thursday, April 6, at Passport. Shows start at 9 p.m.

Shots fired near Capitol Hill

Metro DC police confirm to ABC News that shots were fired near Capitol Hill this morning.

According to police a driver apparently struck a Capitol Police cruiser and then tried to run over several other officers who were on foot.

At some point, Capitol Police apparently fired shots but no one was struck.

The individual has been taken into custody.

Greek military exercise includes US, Israeli forces (photos)

The US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey R. Pyatt attended the 2017 “Iniohos” military exercise that kicked off at Andraviga air base. The military exercise is led by the Hellenic Air Force and includes forces of NATO allies and partner nations. The US, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Italy also took part in the exercise, expanded to include land and navy forces for the first time.

Turkish runners Abeylegesse, Bulut stripped of medals for doping

Ethiopian-born Turkish athlete Elvan Abeylegesse has been stripped of the two silver medals she claimed at the Beijing 2008 Olympics over 5,000m and 10,000m, along with her 10,000m silver medal from the 2007 World Championships, for doping violations.

Prosecution demands aggravated life sentence for Sabancı assassination suspect

A prosecutor has demanded an aggravated life sentence for İsmail Akkol, one of the prime suspects in the 1996 assassination of Özdemir Sabancı who was arrested 20 years after the Sabancı Holding board member's killing.

Akkol stands accused of "attempting to change the constitutional order by force of arms." 

Turkish government considering election law regulation

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is considering making changes to the election law, after Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım hinted at a possible lowering of the 10 percent election threshold if the constitutional amendment is approved in the referendum on April 16.

Investigation launched into eight Anadolu Agency reporters over Gülen links

An investigation has been launched into eight reporters at Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency over suspected links to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, widely believed to have been behind the failed July 15, 2016 coup attempt.

Prime Minister Theresa May has officially notified Brussels about the launch of Brexit. The documents were presented to the President of the European Council Donald Tusk by the British Permanent Representative to the EU Tim Barrow.
