Sixty out of 93 hotel facilities for refugees to close in 2020

Sixty out of the current 93 hospitality openings created in hotels for asylum seekers on the mainland will be closed in 2020 and the residents will be transferred to other facilities or will be included in the the UN Refugee Agency's ESTIA integration program, Migration and Asylum Policy Minister Notis Mitarakis said on Thursday.

Greece welcomes EC package proposal

Greece on Wednesday welcomed a plan proposed by the European Commission to disburse 750 billion euros in grants and loans to European Union countries to help them recover from the economic impact of the coronavirus.

Under the proposal, Greece is expected to receive 32 billion euros from the new recovery fund over three years - 22.5 billion in grants and 9.4 billion in loans.

Catering workers clash with police during rally

Workers in the catering and tourism industry clashed briefly with riot police in central Athens on Thursday during a demonstration to protest the effects of the pandemic on their jobs and the sectors.

The rally was called by the Communist Party-affiliated PAME union.
