Wildfires blaze near Athens; flames engulf homes, cars
Two large wildfires were blazing in Attica Sunday afternoon. The earliest, south of the town of Keratea, has already burned through homes and cars, but no casualties had been reported as of 5.20 p.m. local.
Strong winds are helping spread the fires. In Keratea, the blaze, which started at around 1 p.m. is headed south and could get close to the town of Lavrio,

With the fire in Vilia not extinguished, another fire in Lavreotiki sounded the alarm in the early hours of Friday, but fortunately with a happy ending.
The fire reached a breath from a settlement that fortunately was not in danger, with the mayor of Lavreotiki reporting an arson after a flare.

As state officials on Monday started assessing the damage wreaked by a large fire that burned for most of the weekend near the seaside town of Keratea in eastern Attica, authorities questioned local residents as suspicions of arson deepened.
The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon on at least two fronts simultaneously, according to locals.

Two farming buildings were destroyed in Keratea, eastern Attica, from a fire that broke out on Saturday and was finally brought under control on Sunday, though not before it razed hundreds of hectares of brush and farmland, authorities said.
