Fire breaks out near Megara
A fire broke out near the town of Megara in Attica on Wednesday afternoon. According to information available to Kathimerini, the fire broke out in a wooded area in a gorge and no residential areas are under threat.
The Hellenic Fire Service announced that 35 firefighters, nine vehicles and two aircraft are operating to put the fire out.

Municipalities sign MoU with wildlife NGO

Police busts drug racket in Attica, arrests five
A racket that was peddling vast quantities of heroin from Iran was unraveled this week after a series of raids conducted across Attica.
Police said on Wednesday that five foreign nationals, aged 28, 31, 31, 35 and 53, were arrested and that they seized 45 kilos of heroin and a pistol during raids conducted in Ilion, Zofria, Kypseli, Dafni and Sepolia on Tuesday.

Dourou charged in connection with Mandra floods in 2017
An Athens prosecutor has brought charges against Attica Regional Governor Rena Dourou and another nine officials in connection with the flash floods in Mandra, western Attica, in November 2017 which resulted in the deaths of 25 people and the destruction of hundreds of properties.
Bank robbers steal ATM in west Attica
A group of between four to six robbers drove a car into a bank branch in the town of Megara, west Attica, early Thursday morning and removed an automatic teller machine (ATM), Greek broadcaster Skai reported.
The suspects, who had their faces covered, loaded the ATM on a second vehicle they had parked outside and fled.
