Migrant reception center near northwestern border to close

The Municipal Security Council in the northwestern municipality of Sid, near the border with Croatia, had decided to shut down a local migrant reception center.

The facility in question is located near the Serbian town's railway station, Beta is reporting on Tuesday, citing Belgrade-based daily Blic.

200 illegal migrants caught in western border town

The Serbian police have carried out an operation in the town of Sid, on Serbia's northwestern border with Croatia, detaining more than 200 illegal migrants.

According to the local Sremska TV, cited by Serbia's state broadcaster RTS, this was "an operation to remove illegal migrants" during which "more than 200 of those who were not in the legal channels have been caught."

EU's Hahn Praises Serbia's Efforts to Tackle Refugee Crisis

No country can be left to solve the refugee problem alone, EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn said during a visit to Serbia on Friday.

This problem can only be solved if we all work together in the spirit of solidarity and sharing the burden, said Hahn, who is in charge of EU's neighborhood policy and enlargement negotiations.
