Greeks consider it like συμπρωτεύουσα (the associated-capital) of the Northern Greece. Indeed, Thessaloniki was already the largest city of the Byzantine Empire after Constantinople.

Illegal cigarettes seized in Thessaloniki warehouse

Members of the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) confiscated over 1.3 million packs of contraband cigarettes in a warehouse located the area of Kalochori, near the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Tuesday, Greek police said in a statement on Wednesday.

A truck bearing Bulgarian plates and heating devices were also discovered in the warehouse, according to early reports.

Rail traffic Belgrade - Thessaloniki, Sofia back to normal

BELGRADE - Serbian Railways restored on Tuesday evening the international rail traffic with Greece and Bulgaria on the entire stretch from Belgrade to Thessaloniki and Sofia.

The PhotoBiennale, the country's largest photography event, is back with the third and final chapter of its “Time, Place, Logos” trilogy.

Organized by the Museum of Photography in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, the group exhibition gets under way on May 9 and will run through the end of the summer.
