Thessaloniki also known as Thessalonica, Salonika or Salonica, is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of the region of Macedonia. Greeks consider it like συμπρωτεύουσα (the associated-capital) of the Northern Greece. Indeed, Thessaloniki was already the largest city of the Byzantine Empire after Constantinople.

Boutaris plans Islamic art museum for Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki Mayor Yannis Boutaris on Thursday announced plans to establish a museum of Islamic art in Greeces northern port city.
Boutaris, who was re-elected in May, told Kathimerini he had already contacted the Benaki Museum in Athens to ask for help to turn either the Alaca Imaret or the Yeni Cami, both former mosques, into a museum.

Thessaloniki man arrested again for blackmailing woman over alleged sex tape
A 51-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in the northern port city of Thessaloniki for allegedly blackmailing a 43-year-woman by saying he had a compromising video of her and would show it to her husband unless she gave him 500 euros.

Man sought in connection to illicit alcohol
Police in the northern port city of Thessaloniki were seeking a 53-year-old businessman over charges of running a contraband alcohol ring in the area of Kalamaria.
According to early reports, the suspect's company, which was officially trading in fabrics, had been allegedly transformed into a contraband alcohol bottling unit.

Ex-Thessaloniki mayor's jail term for embezzlement lightened
