Greece: 44 fires since yesterday across the country, 33 were dealt with immediately – Two arrests in Fthiotida
From yesterday afternoon at 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. today, 44 fires have occurred, of which 33 were immediately treated at their initial stage, while firefighters are treating 11 more.
3.7 magnitude quake shakes Peloponnese
An earthquake rattled the regions of Ilias, Messinia and Arcadia in the Peloponnese at approximately 5 p.m. Monday.
According to the Earthquake Research-Institute of Geodynamics in Athens, the 3.7 magnitude quake had an epicenter five kilometers north of the town of Zacharo.

Neda Gorge listed for environmental protection
The Gorge of Neda, which separates the prefectures of Ilia and Messinia, in the southwestern Peloponnese, will be declared a protected landscape and natural formation, the Environment Ministry announced on Wednesday.

Ex-mayor nabbed as fire sentence is upheld
The former mayor of Zacharo, a village in Ilia, in the Peloponnse, which was ravaged by fatal forest fires in 2007, has been arrested in Alimos, southern Athens, it emerged on Wednesday.
Pantazis Chronopoulos served as mayor of Zacharo from 2002 to late 2010, when the Interior Ministry ordered his suspension.
