Selçuk Bayraktar, chairman and chief technology officer (CTO) of Türkiye's leading drone maker Baykar, topped the list of highest-income taxpayers in 2023, the country's Revenue Administration said on Aug. 28.

Last year, 1.95 billion Turkish Liras ($52.4 million) of income tax accrued to Selçuk Bayraktar.

The current economic policies will continue to be implemented after the upcoming elections, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek has said.

Türkiye will hold local elections on March 31.

The combined net profit of the companies, whose shares are traded on the stock exchange, increased by 75 percent in the third quarter to hit 444 billion Turkish Liras ($15.6 billion).

Turkey's Akbank, Garanti and İş Bank have applied to the competition authority to take over 55 percent of Türk Telekom after Oger Telecom failed to make three payments on a $4.75 billion loan it secured to acquire a stake in the Turkish fixed-line operator, the competition authority has said.

The two-year extension of the project for the Turkish company "Garanti-Koza" in the metropolitan quarter of Mladost was extended. This allows the deadline for the certificate of priority project given to the company in 2015 to be extended.

Turkey's benchmark index advanced by 0.25 percent to stand at 100,440.39 points at the close of June 30, marking a 0.80-percent rise compared with last week.      

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index posted its highest "week close" with a 250.08-point increase, while the total trading volume was 4.1 billion Turkish Liras (approximately $1.16 billion).      

Turkey's benchmark index closed the week with a 384.55-point hike to reach 92,423.93 points on April 21, marking it the second highest close of all time.      

Turkey's benchmark index was up 1,322.94 points to close at 91,044.99 on March 6, marking its highest level in just over two years.      

The BIST 100 index rose 1.47 percent with a total trading volume of 4 billion Turkish Liras (approximately $1.08 billion).      

A number of Turkish banks reported serious disruption in online operations and credit card transactions Dec. 25, as hackers stepped up a series of cyberattacks seen in the country over the past week.

Several Turkish banks experienced sporadic disruption to credit card transactions on Friday in the latest wave of a two-week long cyber assault on public and financial websites, Reuters reported.
