Samsung Electronics posted a near 40 percent fall in first quarter net profit April 29, missing analyst estimates despite a surge in memory chip demand that cushioned a slump in smartphone sales.

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has been named the world's highest paid female athlete for the tenth straight year, according to Forbes magazine.

Sharapova’s massive endorsement haul landed her the top spot in the world’s richest women in professional sports list with earnings of USD 24.4M between June 2013 and June 2014.

Authorities in Brazil say a group of bandits raided a Samsung electronics factory and made off with about USD 36 M worth of cellphones and computers, reports AP.
