Fire in Attica: Severe Impact – At Least 100,000 Acres Burned, Dozens of Homes and Businesses Destroyed

The ongoing wildfire in Attica has caused massive destruction, consuming over 100,000 acres, with at least 100 homes, numerous businesses, and public buildings reduced to ashes. The fire, which claimed the life of a woman in a workshop in Chalandri, has devastated areas like Penteli, Marathonas, and Dionysos.

The blaze, fueled by strong winds, spread rapidly, causing significant ecological damage and loss of wildlife, while also crippling infrastructure and essential services. However, it’s not just homes and hundreds of cars that were consumed by the flames. Besides the vast destruction of Attica’s natural resources and the loss of hundreds of animals (about 150 animals were evacuated to emergency shelters, with 4 treated for burns and 2 dying), the fire also damaged infrastructure, such as the power grid, and public buildings like sports facilities.

The wildfire also ravaged businesses, including a chemical plant, a lumber warehouse, a heating oil company, gas stations, various factories, and agricultural land, including vineyards.
