Thessaloniki Metro train stoppage disrupts services

The brand new Thessaloniki metro keeps having teething problems.

In the latest incident, a train stopped between stations Saturday evening. The passengers, after being kept inside for 15 minutes, had to walk to the next station. 

Since then, traffic between Nea Elvetia and Panepistimio stations, that is 8 of the system's 13 stops, has been running on one track only.

This was not the only rail incident of the day. At Mt. Pelion, the steam train plying a 15-kilometer route, was derailed on the first day of its new operation and services have been suspended. None of the 37 passengers were hurt, Hellenic Train announced.
