Heavy rain impacts western Greece, 5 people rescued in Agrinio
Fire brigade crews rescued and relocated five persons whose lives were endangered by heavy rainfall in the wider Agrinio region, western Greece, on Saturday.
Crews also conducted eight water pumping operations to remove water from flooded ground floors and basements caused by excessive water accumulation and torrent overflows in the Agrinio area.
The deputy regional governor of Etoloakarnania, Thanasis Mavrommatis, described the overall situation as being under control.
"Machinery is working continuously at torrents to clear debris from the heavy rainfall, as well as on numerous road sections to remove soil deposits and debris," the official said.
