Civil war breaks out in Burundi, shots fired near state-owned TV station

Shots rang in Burundi, Africa, near the state-owned radio and TV station, according to Reuters.

 

The station’s building has been surrounded by soldiers, while some attempted to enter.

 

Major General Godefroid Niyombare, a former intelligence chief and ally of the President, Mr. Pierre Nkurunziza performed a coup late last night, based on his statements that the President was trying to run for a third term, something which is against the country’s constitution. Thus, the two forces are now clashing in Burundi’s capital, Bujumbura, with both sides claiming to have the upper hand.
