Athens dismisses Turkish claims of Kurd training camps

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Wednesday sought to play down claims by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Kurdish terrorists are being trained in camps in Greece by suggesting that Erdogan might have “confused” Greece with another country.

“I believe that, during the course of a pre-election speech, Mr Erdogan may have confused the country he was referring to,” Venizelos told a press conference. “As regards tackling terrorism, we have received praise from Turkey,” he added, noting that the two countries have a “convergence of views” on the issue. Earlier this week, Erdogan claimed the extreme-leftist Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front ( DHKP-C) has training camps in Greece.
