Angela Bassett's time has come to hold an Oscar statuette that she can call her own, CNN has reported.

The two-time nominee is set to receive an honorary Oscar at the 2023 Governors Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced on June 26.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences named its new CEO on June 7, ending a tumultuous 11 years under Dawn Hudson that included the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, a huge expansion of the group's membership, and Will Smith's infamous slap.

His name has been deleted from the list of 8,400 members. The way the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has expelled film producer Harvey Weinstein over sexual assault claims is unprecedented. In its 90-year history, the Academy has expelled only two members.

Coming-of-age drama "Moonlight" won the coveted best picture statuette at Oscars, but the evening ended in chaos as "La La Land," already the winner of six prizes, was first mistakenly handed the award.

Director Mustafa Kara's "Kalandar Sogugu" (Cold of Kalandar) was selected Sept. 27 as Turkey's nominee for the Foreign Language Academy Award entry.  

The dark comedy "Birdman" held up a mirror to Hollywood and its struggling actors and received in return the film industry's highest recognition on Feb. 22, the Academy Award for best picture.

The prolific American actor Eli Wallach, known by many for his role in the western "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" as part of a career spanning six decades, has died at the age of 98, US media reports said.
      
The New York Times said Wallach's death Tuesday was confirmed by his daughter Katherine. The cause of death was not given.
