Alevi Foundations Federation

A boycott of schools was launched on Feb. 13 upon a call from the E?itim-Sen teachers' union and a number of Alevi associations to protest the government's recent education system implementations, including on compulsory religion classes.

A group of Alevi associations partnered with the E?itim-Sen teachers' union staged a rally on Feb. 8 in Istanbul's Kad?köy district against compulsory religion classes and forming the education system according to religious rules.

Several leading Alevis associations have decided to hold a large rally in Istanbul on Feb. 8.

The decision to hold the rally was made in a meeting of the Alevi Bekta?i Federation, the Alevi Foundations Federation, and the Alevi Associations Federation, under the title "Alevi Unity Solidarity Meeting" in Istanbul on Jan. 4.

The Alevi Foundations Federations, which comprises of more than 900 associations, have declared their public support to Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu for the upcoming presidential election on Aug. 10, following their growing discontent with the prime minister’s sectarian rhetoric.
