Suspect in Ambelokipi blast case faces trial for 2020 attack on university rector

A 26-year-old man whose fingerprint was allegedly found inside a plastic garbage bag retrieved from an apartment in Athens' Ambelokipi district where an explosive device accidentally detonated in October, is one of the chief suspects in a 2020 attack on the former rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB).

Athens University of Economics and Business names new management council

The composition of the new 11-member management council of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) has been announced by the university's rector, Dimitris Bourantonis.

The council comprises six internal members and five external members. 

The council's four-year term commences on September 1.

Fresh tension erupts outside AUEB

Fresh tension erupted outside the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) on central Patission Street on Thursday, as a group of approximately 35 individuals emerged from the premises and created makeshift barricades using trash bins that were set on fire, according to reports.

The police reportedly responded by using tear gas. 

University students to have online classes in event of sit-ins

The closure of universities as part of the first round of restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus earlier this month has prompted some Greek students to vote in favor of online classes in the event that faculties are forced to close again, for instance if minority groups decide to hold sit-ins.

Police attacked outside downtown university

Unidentified assailants attacked police officers with rocks and other objects outside the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) on Thursday afternoon, lightly injuring one.
According to reports, the attack occurred as police conducted an operation to clear the area outside the university of illegal street vendors.
There were no reports of arrests.
