Turkish journalist faces eight years in jail for 'insulting Erdo?an'

An Istanbul prosecutor has demanded up to eight years and two months in jail for Today's Zaman's editor-in-chief, Bülent Kene?, for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an on social media and in his statements. 

The indictment was prepared upon complaints by the lawyers representing the president. 

Curfew ends in Mardin's Nusaybin

A curfew declared in the Nusaybin district of southeastern Mardin province was lifted on Nov. 26, 13 days after it was instituted, the district's governor's office has announced.

The curfew, which was declared on Nov. 13 at 9 p.m., was lifted on Nov. 26 starting from 8 a.m., the statement said.

Turkish military says met Russian attachés, explained downing of jet

Turkey's military invited Russian military attachés to its headquarters on Nov. 25 to explain that Ankara shot down a Russian fighter jet the previous day because its rules of engagement were invoked after the plane failed to respond to warnings, according to army sources.

Four ISIL members detained in two Turkish provinces

Four members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have been captured in two separate provinces, the Turkish General Staff has said in a written statement.

The general staff said Nov. 25 that two Russian citizens identified to be ISIL members were detained in an operation in the northwestern province of Bursa.

Istanbul court arrests 16 over human smuggling into Europe

Sixteen people out of 22 detained over the smuggling of migrants into Europe from Turkey were arrested on Nov. 25 by an Istanbul court.

Police squads raided a number of different locations in the Zeytinburnu district, on the European side of the city, as part of a series of operations targeting smugglers between Nov. 15 and 19, police sources said.
