Independence monument, new attempt to unite the nation

Slovenia is one of the few ex-communist or ex-socialist countries that has not opted for tearing down monuments associated with the former regime after it adopted democracy in the 1990s. However, now Slovenia's first president and last head of the country's Communist party has suggested just that.

MP candidate arrested on alleged terror charges

A parliamentary candidate for the Green Left Party (YSP) has been arrested in the investigation into the far-left Socialist Party of the Oppressed's (ESP) youth organization.

Running for a seat in the Central Anatolian city of Eskişehir, Müslüm Koyun was detained during a raid on his house on April 30. The arrest comes as the country prepares for presidential and general elections.

Opinion poll shows ND lead widening

A new opinion poll shows the ruling center-right New Democracy leading left-wing Syriza by 6.5% in voting intentions.

The poll, based on a sample of 1,051, was done by research firm Pulse and commission by TV station Skai.

The previous poll, conducted on April 4, had showed New Democracy 4% ahead of Syriza.

Party leaders visit towns, islands ahead of Easter Sunday

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is on the island of Tinos with his family, wished Happy Easter to Orthodox Greeks around the world in a post on the social media. Mitsotakis will be attending services on the island during the holiday.

Main opposition leader Alexis Tsipras was spending Easter with his family in Corfu, where he participated in the annual ritual of pot smashing.
