Number of women entrepreneurs on rise in Turkey

The number of women entrepreneurs in Turkey has jumped 35 percent to over 250,000 since 2013, according to a study released by the Customs and Trade Ministry on March 8.      

As of March 1, there were 256,992 women business owners, compared to 190,382 in 2013, the study said, adding that the share of women entrepreneurs rose 15 percent from 12.7 percent over the same period.      

4,000 red eared slider turtles seized at Atatürk International Airport in Istanbul

Police seized at least 4,000 red eared slider turtles at Atatürk International Airport in Istanbul on Feb. 15, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The turtles were seized in three different items of baggage during the mobile baggage x-ray scanning process, according to a written statement issued by the Customs and Trade Ministry.

Technical infrastructure for early warning system on food prices in Turkey to be completed soon

The Food and Agricultural Product Markets Monitoring and Evaluation Committee has decided that studies on the establishment of the Early Warning System would be conducted under the coordination of the Central Bank and Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry and said that its technical infrastructure would be completed as soon as possible. 

Turkey's foreign trade deficit drops 42.5 percent in October: Agency

Turkey's foreign trade deficit declined by 42.5 percent year-on-year in October due to a continuing decline in the country's imports, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜ?K) stated on Nov. 30.      

The foreign trade gap dropped from $6.3 billion to $3.6 billion in October, according to provisional data produced jointly by TÜ?K and the Customs and Trade Ministry. 

Turkey's foreign trade gap drops 46 pct amid oil plunge

Turkey's foreign trade deficit declined by 46.6 percent to $3.7 billion in September compared to the same month of 2014 due to a dramatic decline in the country's energy imports and a slowdown in the economy ahead of the elections, according to data released by the Turkish Statistics Agency (TÜ?K) on Oct. 30 in cooperation with the Customs and Trade Ministry.
